Find an Expert Directory - One of the primary functions of the EWI is to be a resource for Expert Witnesses who are seeking to develop their practice. The EWI website provides solicitors seeking experts in your specialty with your name and contact details. All Provisional, Individual, Certified Individual, Fellow, Certified Fellow and Corporate members receive a full website entry in the online EWI Find an Expert Directory. Entries include a personal profile, full contact details and a photograph
Post-nominals - The following categories of member are entitled to use the following EWI Post-Nominals:
- Full - MEWI (Full Member of EWI)
- Certified Member - MEWI Cert (Certified Member of EWI)
- Fellow - FEWI (Fellow of EWI)
- Certified Fellow - FEWI Cert (Certified Fellow of EWI).
EWI Logo - EWI members (excluding Prospective, Provisional, Retired, Sabbatical, Student and Associate Members) are entitled to use the designated logo to indicate that they have met the technical, legal and quality standard for criteria for EWI membership.
Training and Events - The EWI has an important role to play in ensuring that the experts, who are recognised by the court under the relevant rules, are competent and fully cognisant of their responsibilities.
The EWI runs courses and webinars throughout the year on topical issues. Members receive discounts on all training and events.
As part of our agreement with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Ciarb), Members can also book onto Ciarb qualifications and events at the Ciarb member rate.

Knowledge Hub - Members have access to exclusive areas of our Knowledge Hub where we provide up-to-the-minute access to all the important expert witness documents including: An 'Example Form of an Expert's Report', 'Terms and conditions of Engagement', current legislation and much more is available in our area of the website.
Helpline - EWI offers free and confidential use of the EWI Helpline, offering support and advice to expert witness members across disciplines. We also have a bank of frequently asked questions.Members can access this through the Knowledge Hub.
Free pre-recorded webinars - All EWI members have access to a selection of free recordings which sit along any others they may have purchased or received post an event they attended. Members will need to be logged in to the website to view these. Recordings are listed by date on which they were recorded.
Mentoring for Provisional Members - All EWI Provisional members can select a mentor from amongst the Fellows of the Institute to assist them in achieving full membership. Mentors can provide advice on report writing, appearing in court and managing an expert witness practice.
Keeping you up to date – Members receive a monthly eNewsletter highlighting the latest news, events and resources. The EWI Magazine is issued, three times a year, free of charge to all members. The magazine contains articles of interest designed to ensure that members have access to the most up-to-date information.
Sponsoring body for CJSM accounts - For those working in the criminal courts, members can use the EWI as a sponsor if they need to be able to use a CJSM email account to be sent evidence. You should apply in the usual way, but if your key contact is not willing or able to sponsor you, the CJSM Helpline can contact EWI to verify your membership.
Networking – EWI provide opportunities to develop you professional networks through our training and events programme.
Championing Expert Witnesses – We work hard to raise the profile of Expert Witnesses and the unique contribution they make to the justice system. We continually promote for the importance of using fully vetted Expert Witnesses. We make representations on behalf of the community to key stakeholders on the issues that matter to you.
